Sail News for July 29, 2010 -
by David Cook
Hi VMSS Sailors and South Islands IOM Sailors.
This Sunday is the 1st Sunday of August so we'll have our regular casual
sailing starting at 11. Barry plans on being there and I won't be.
Last Friday was an exciting day for me as I launched my own IOM design
which I built with a ton of help from a lot of friends. The boat sails
well despite being a bit low at the bow. It turns and tracks really well
and is a little off the pace for speed which should only improve. The
next step is to tank test her for hull and overall draught, juggle the
weight around to get her sitting on her lines if possible. It's a good
thing I made a longer keelbox and an adjustable bulb. In September I plan
on increasing the volume of the plug and making another one.
After selling my MIOMI to a neighbour up at Robinson Lake, I've recently
sold my Italiko to VMSS member Ron Ingalls. If Ron's first sail a week
ago last Sunday with the Italiko is any indication on how competitive
the boat will be, Ron should do much better than I ever did.
Nothing like putting all your eggs into one basket. Attached are a couple
of photos of her sailing both up and downwind.
For the 2 day staggered start regatta I'm hosting at Robinson lake on
Labour day Weekend, Sep. 4 & 5 there are now 11 entrants so the event
looks promising for numbers. If you'd like to go, please let me know of
register on the Yahoo group database.
Remember VMSS will be hosting the 'Beaver Fever', a 2 day IOM event on
Oct. 2 & 3 so please help out in any way you can. let Barry or i know
if you can billet anyone, help measure boats, do race committee or be
involved with the social side of things.
Cheers
David Cook
