Sailing Section - January 17, 2010 - by Barry Fox

We had 10 boats out again today at Beaver Lake in very challenging winds.
Shifty, both in speed and direction, which kept you on your toes to have your
sails set right every 10 or 20 feet up and down the course.

You could be on a dead run one second, close hauled the next and then reaching
to get to the next mark. Beaver Lake is like that whenever the winds are more
easterly or westerly, it swirls.

Starts were the complete answer today. If you didn't get a decent start then you
were out of shift with the lead boats and spent the rest of the time hoping that
you would get the favourable shift (that didn't/doesn't often happen.

Ron down from Duncan, Ole over from Saltspring (with a shopping trip bribe from
the better half) and Dave Seager and Eric Paul making a first appearance in some
time.

Good practice at dealing with frustrating winds at times.

6 weeks to the first series race, let me know if you are coming. Use the
database if you can or drop me an email and I'll add you in.
