Sailing Section - Annual Spring Series - First Announcement for 2010 - by Barry Fox

I've been trying to resolve dates and places for this year's Spring Series and
have at least got the locations agreed on now.

The schedule currently looks like:

• Victoria (Beaver Lake) - Feb. 28, 2010
• Saltspring Island (Sunset or SISC) - March 21, 2010
• Long Lake (Louden Park) - April 24, 2010
• Port Alberni (Cameron Lake)- May 16, 2010

The Victoria one is straight forward as it will be at Beaver Lake in the normal
location where VMSS sails.

Saltspring Island will likely be at the pond as long as the water level is OK
and teh ground not too soft. If there is too much chance of launching and
parking difficulty t will be held at the Sailing Club.

Long Lake will be a bit different this year as we will be directly south of the
hotel facilities where we have normally sailed and the dock facilities there
allow for better wind direction for us and to have the boats sail more parallel
to the dock. Less problems with far away marks.

The wind up will be at a new location for the Series with a visit to the Port
Alberni area and an event on Cameron Lake. Word has it that wind should not be a
problem and that your smaller rigs may get a lot of use.

Sometime near the end of this year I will start to get NORs and the rest of the
documentation together so that we can all work our plans out.

The short list is that there will be the normal $5 entry fee for each event and
the normal one time $5 series entry fee.

We will use the HMS scoring software to do the events scoring and I will use the
same software to score the series overall positions. So the entire series will
be low point scoring. With 4 events planned, there will be one drop taken on the
overall results so you can afford to have a bad race weekend or even miss one
and still figure in the final results.

More later but I wanted to get the basics out to you as soon as I could and this
is it.

We will again try to have useful prizes at each event and something a but nicer
for the first 3 in the series. As time goes by we may add in some other awards
but it is too early to tell what they might be.
